Oogie Boogie Foam Dice

I think this was one of the most fun things I have created from foam so far. I bought some yellow foam dice from the dollar store and carved from there. These are the steps I took to create the Oogie Boogie Dice.

  1. Foam Dice
  2. Dremel Tool
  3. Pencil
  4. x-acto knife
  5. Paint Red and Black

Outline Cut Out

I took a pencil and drew out the skulls for each square. I used this template to get each square just right. The first one I tried to use just the x-acto knife to cut it all out. Found the holes were really wonky and it didn’t work right. My husband then came up with the brilliant idea of using a Dremel tool. Since we have one and a big set of attachments. My thought was why didn’t I think of that duh! It went a lot smoother once I used it.  I found using the x-acto knife to cut around the circles first before using the Dremel helped keep me in the lines.

Paint The Oogie Boogie Dice

The last step is painting the Oogie Boogie dice. You will want to paint the holes black and the other parts red. If you look at this diagram it helps.  At least this is how I did mine 🙂

A Game My Son Created

My son decided to create a game out of it. It’s kind of similar to Oogie Boogie when the dice land on snake eyes with Santa 🙂

The rules

Take one dice and roll for each person. If it lands on anything but 2 you are safe. If it lands on 2 you are out. The last person to make it not landing on 2 wins!

DIY- Darth Vader Mask- Instructions Included

Rogue One is being released soon. Time to build your fun Darth Vader Mask!

My son and I are excited to go to the movie wearing our masks.

Please note these masks aren’t super sturdy it is only paper foam. This is also my own design if you use my idea please give me credit 🙂

Also if your face is longer or wider you will need to adjust the pattern by adding some length or width to the pieces. My head is a child’s size large in hats to give you an idea of how the mask fits 🙂

Things Needed for the project.

This contains affiliate links see disclosure for more info.

First step

Cut out the pattern for the project or as you are working on it. I tried to label them appropriately so hopefully you understand. You may have to adjust some of the pieces as you go. This pattern is ment to fit a small face.  Here is the link to the PDF pattern DarthVader Mask Pattern

Watch my video for more details on the steps-Note its in two videos and it is my first video ever for youtube so please be kind!

Second Step

Get hot gluing!

Be Careful not to burn your fingers with the hot glue, I may have burned mine a few times.

I started with the face triangle part and built from there. You may want to try it on as you go and adjust for your face.

Third step

Build your helmet next it’s in video 2. I kept trying mine on to make sure it fit right.  In my pattern, I did a short one for children and a longer one for adults. This picture below is of my youngest wearing the shorter one. I did take off a little length from the back he kept knocking it off. My boys love playing dress up so this is just another fun piece to their collection.

Fourth step

Once you have it all glued and togeather you can go around the seams with electrical tape to hide the hot glue seams. Unless you are amazing or don’t care at the hot glue seams then you wouldn’t need to do this step. I wanted mine to look as black and polished as possible.

Fifth step

Now you can attach your hood to the mask. You can hot glue it on or you can use velcro. I used velcro so I could wear the hood separate if I wanted to.

Make Your Own Rey Costume

For Halloween, I was Rey from Star Wars. I thought this would be a fun costume and I would get more than one use out of it, like wearing it for May 4th at work 🙂 Building the Rey Costume was pretty easy it just has a lot of pieces to it.bb8-3

I started with the base of the costume. I had a grayish white shirt so I used it. I got my pants from the thrift store and I ordered my shoes (slippers from 6pm.com)

The Pants

So I took the thrift store pants cut the bottom 5ish inches of the legs off. Then I cut a strip from the cut off piece, tied it to my leg, and tucked the pants around it like the pictures below.

The wrap

I bought 3 yards of this crinkle fabric I realize now I should have bought 4 yards to make it thicker. Instead, I had to cut it in half and half again. Then I sewed it in 4 pieces add length to it. I wanted to use just two pieces like the original costume. This is the source I used (you will have to scroll to the diagram) to get the wrap on right

The Belt and Bag

I took two thrift store belts and a thrift store bag to make the side pouch.  Start with a piece of leather cut into a longer wider rectangle, I took one from another purse and attached it to connect the two belts together and hide where the belts connect. To make this leather piece I cut it from a thrift store bag and sewed on velcro to attach it.

To add the bag /purse I cut the purse strap off of it and then cut two holes in the back to thread the bottom belt through. Save your purse strap for you Rey staff DIY Here.

Arm Wraps

I bought gauze from the store and brewed up some coffee and let them soak in it for a while then I wring it out and let dry. I smelled like coffee it was great 🙂 It did a good effect of making it look dirty and worn. If you look in the picture you can see the square piece of leather covering the belts like I was trying to explain above. Sorry, I should of taken a better picture. rey-arm

Leather Arm Band

For the leather arm band I took a thrift store purse and cut off the front. I then hand sewed it together to make my band. This was so much cheaper and easier than buying it online or making it out of real or fake leather. I hope you can find a cool purse like I did to make yours easy too.

Make Your Own Genie Costume

My husband decided for Halloween he wanted to be a genie. So we found a similar idea but didn’t want to pay a lot for a costume. I decided I could make this genie costume for cheap. I think it cost me $15 total to make. That price includes the vest and spraypaint 🙂

This genie costume is a little inappropriate but it’s for an adult Halloween party so please don’t get offended its all in fun.

Step one:

Take a moving box and trace a lap shape on it handle included.genie2

Step Two:

Take a box cutter or scissors and cut out the shape. I left the handle attached at the back I didn’t cut it in half to make two whole pieces.

genie3

Step Three:

Tested it around your waist. Then cut and add cardboard in the front for the lamp shape. It’s best to tape this lengthwise. You might want to do a few small pieces width wise but short so the spray paint part doesn’t look weird like mine did. You will also want to tape the back part togeather.

genie5cardboard genie

Step Four:

After you get it all taped to your liking you will want to spray paint it. I used two different cans of spray paint  Krylon gold color and gold Rust-oleum sparkle spray.

Step Five:

Now you can add Rub Me!  If you are making this for a child forget to add the rub me 🙂 This can be a little dirty but for an adult party, it was perfect!genie7

Step Six:

Added wire and cotton balls to the end to create smoke coming out of the end. I used hot glue to attach the pulled apart cotton balls to the wire. Make sure you fold down the top of the wire you don’t want to poke someone’s eye out.

Final Genie Costume Look

To create the full look we bought a blue vest from the thrift store. I also bought some fake hair to attach to my husbands head. I attached the hair with liquid latex and it worked really well.

My husband had so much fun with this genie costume.

Build Your Own Star Wars Rey Staff For Cheap

For Halloween, I am going to be Rey from Star Wars. I wanted to make my costume as close to the real as I could. The only problem was my budget I didn’t want to pay a whole ton to buy or make my own staff. I had seen things that other people had used foam paper to make other staffs to fit their cosplay outfits. So I found this picture and use foam paper to make the Rey staff.

Attach Foam Paper to PVC

I bought a package of foam paper that has a sticky back it helped in some parts but others it could be a pain at times. The sticky parts got all covered up in the end by the spray paint so it wasn’t sticky anymore. I cut the pieces and attached them to the 1 inch PVC pipe. I had this pipe left over from a previous project it’s about 5ft tall. After I had the foam paper attached I went back and hot glued it onto the pipe. If you don’t go back to hot glue it, they will fall off.

Spray Paint it

The next step was to spray paint it. I used Rust-Oleum hammered black. You could go back through and add some brown, gold etc. to make it look more worn. I really didn’t have the time right now to add more.

rust-oleum spray paint

Add Fabric and Brown Burlap String

I used the same crinkle fabric just like I used for my Rey costume. Then I used burlap string to go around the middle. I hot glued all of it to the PVC Pipe. You will want to place this in the middle of the section of the Rey staff.

Straps

I used an old fake leather purse and cut straps out of the back of the purse.

Hand traced cut out. You need to cut two out.28

Strap from my Rey pouch thrift store purse.29

I sewed the lining of the purse to the inside of the cut out to give it more strength since it wasn’t thick leather it needed a little support. Then I took a strap from another thrift store purse the one I used for my costume pouch. I sewed this to the leather straps pieces I made. Then I attached snaps the end of the pieces. I hand sewed the leather and the snaps on. When you attach the snaps make sure they are the right way, the first time I sewed it wrong. Also, don’t mind my drawing on the leather I did fix it when I cut it out 🙂

Its not the most perfect thing but it was fun to make.30
